While hope slowly fades away for the Miami Heat to add a third star to their roster this offseason, they do still have two legitimate stars on their team who are key contributors all around. One of those stars is Bam Adebayo, who will be entering his sixth season in the NBA.
While his defense is certainly his greatest skill, Adebayo has consistently developed his offensive game each season. Last season, Adebayo averaged 19.1 points per game.
While he is not necessarily considered a dangerous scoring threat, he can give you buckets when he gets going. This season, the Miami Heat are going to need Bam’s offense more than ever.
Miami might only have a few seasons left to make a championship run with the team as presently constructed. While that may put pressure on Bam Adebayo to improve his offensive consistency, he already possesses the necessary skills to expand his role offensively.
The Miami Heat are very appreciative of what Bam Adebayo brings to the team defensively, but they hope he can become more of a threat offensively.
He just needs to access all of his abilities. The first step for Bam to expand his role in the Miami Heat offense is to demand the ball.
Even as a small center, we have seen Bam dominate in the paint at times. However, we have also seen him be what is described as passive.
He occasionally disappears in the offense. Bam is a playmaking center, so he can set plays up for himself.
That being said, he will still need other players to help dump the ball to him in the paint. A part of that includes making sure his footwork and speed are allowing him to find the passing lanes to receive the ball.
Another part of that is using his strength to become a real presence in the paint. The Heat will need Bam to be someone that consistently draws attention.
Bam Adebayo is close to becoming that much-needed offensive threat that the Miami Heat desire at the center position. Since the Heat lost P.J. Tucker, Bam will need to play a bigger role in being that guy for Miami.
The organization has refused to include Bam in any trade talks for Kevin Durant. That is because they believe he is capable of becoming that player that a lot of people believe he can be on both sides of the ball.
We will see how Bam responds to last season’s tough exit. But, the sky is still the limit for the guy.
