Miami Heat’s ECF foe, Boston Celtics, offseason of turmoil continues
The Miami Heat have their own problems to deal with. That’s the first thing that must be said.
Just days away from training camp getting underway, the Miami Heat still have more questions than answers when it comes to their power forward rotation. With a Jae Crowder move on the horizon though from the Phoenix Suns, that may be just the answer they are looking for.
However, this isn’t about the Miami Heat—directly about them, anyway. This is about the Miami Heat’s foe and the eventual victor in last season’s Eastern Conference Finals, the Boston Celtics.
To open the specific conversation at hand today, Murphy’s Law must be the word pinned to the top. Plainly put, it states that “what can go wrong, will go wrong”.
Usually, a phrase reserved for some of your more inept franchises around sports like the Sacramento Kings, the San Diego Padres, the Dallas Cowboys a lot of the times, and teams like the Cleveland Browns until a recent slight amount of success, it’s a term that hasn’t often been associated with one of the greatest, most historic, most prolific, and most winningest franchises in sports and in the NBA.
The Miami Heat still have things left to sort out before the season tips, but it could be worse. The Boston Celtics are proof of that very fact right now.
However, for the Boston Celtics this offseason, it is exactly the word that describes them. You have the fact that Robert Williams continues to need knee procedures.
While he supposedly played through it last season, it was heavily reported then that opting to do so likely meant a future marred with surgery, missed time, and soreness in the knee. That future is seemingly coming to fruition.
You then have one of their key acquisitions of the offseason, Danilo Gallinari, tearing his ACL up in international play. He signed a two-year pact with the Celtics this past offseason.
Speaking of one of their key guys though, you can’t forget about Jaylen Brown. It was after he was reportedly offered as the centerpiece in a deal to the Brooklyn Nets for Kevin Durant that he took to social media to let his feelings be known, simply Tweeting out “SMH”.
With all of the injuries mentioned above and the continued yo-yo that is Jaylen Brown’s status with the team at any given time, this next bit of news is just the straw that may break the camel’s proverbial back.
Being reported as “an improper intimate and consensual relationship with a female member of the team staff” according to Shams Charania of The Athletic (subscription required), he would also go on to say that “it’s been deemed a violation of franchise’s code of conduct.”
While all of the drama and unfortunate circumstances that have surrounded the team this offseason are one thing, Udoka’s suspension may be another hurdle to climb and especially if it is, indeed, for the entirety of the season.
So, while the Miami Heat still have a power forward situation to sort out, things could be worse. The Boston Celtics, at this very moment, are proof of that.
