The Miami Heat squandered away another big opportunity on Wednesday night.
Following a Tuesday night defeat that saw them, pretty much, blown out by the Toronto Raptors via the usage of the two-point shot, the Miami Heat we’re coming into a game against the New York Knicks with a chance to not only get back on the right side of the winning column but continue their climb out of NBA Play-In territory.
And though the game would start out a little sluggish for the Miami Heat, they would quickly gain control of their offense and eventually, take a lead early on New York. The game would go on like that for much of the contest, pretty even, and all about who had the last shot.
But then, in the final quarter, they let everything slip away, allowing the Knicks to go up nearly double digits in a matter of minutes.
The Miami Heat dropped another winnable game Wednesday night. It has you wondering if they even mind having a play-in game to look forward to.
At that point, the game was all but over, as the Miami Heat couldn’t string together enough fluid offensive sequences to even give themselves a shot at coming back.
And mind you, this was all without Julius Randle taking the floor for New York in the second half.
There are a couple of main takeaways from this game, with the first being a question. Do the Miami Heat even care about not having to play in the NBA Play-In?
It’s a valid question but one you hope doesn’t exist in reality. Secondly, where were the best players, as Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo finished with less than 15 points each?
Though Tyler Herro would just go over 15 with 16 points, the only guy on the team to score 20 or more points on Wednesday night was Gabe Vincent. Miami doesn’t have much time left in the regular season to figure some things out and with the playoffs on the horizon, things are only going to get tougher.
And looking as though they’ll eventually head to the NBA’s play-in scenario, they better figure it out quickly.
