Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra was back in Kaseya Center for NBA Media Day, keeping one message clear: “The Heat are one of those teams.” He truly believes that Miami has the roster in place to contend for another title with a big three of Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, and Tyler Herro.

Spoelstra mentioned the dynamic ability of Adebayo and Herro, along with the leadership of guys like Kyle Lowry and Kevin Love. There hasn’t been much change to the roster, but this is a team that just fought their way into playing in June.

Despite offseason rumors of potentially adding Damian Lillard or another starter in the mix, Miami and Spoelstra decided to roll the dice with the roster in place.

“The way I’ve looked at this after several years of being in the league you just want to come into camp having a team that you know is going to be one of those teams competing for a title, and we have one of those teams right now.”

“I understand the fandom and the buzz, everybody wants change after every single year. You don’t know if those changes will lead to anything on those other teams. We like our group, we have one of the best playoff performers, we have one of the best two-way centers and players in this entire association… I think we just have a very proven, functional, and dynamic depth in all positions that we need.”

Spoelstra and the Heat made some vital additions to the roster in Thomas Bryant, Josh Richardson, and Jaime Jaquez Jr., and he seems to believe that’s all it’s going to take to compete for the title. With Spoelstra and Pat Riley in the building, Miami will always be a franchise that tries to hoist up the title trophy.
