After an impressive stretch of basketball and season as a whole, Tyler Herro has earned the NBA’s Eastern Conference Player of the Week. Herro led the Miami Heat to a 3-1 record last week with averages of 25 points, six rebounds and six assists on 51% from the field and 44% from 3-point range.
This marks Herro’s first Player of the Week award, becoming the 17th player in team history to earn the honor and the 62nd overall time a member of the Heat has been named Player of the Week.
Luka Doncic also joined him by winning the honor for the Western Conference.
Herro is coming off a team-high 34-point outing in Miami’s statement win over the Cleveland Cavaliers. The polarizing combo guard has been the brightest spot of the Heat’s 2024-25 campaign. Despite years of trade rumors, unfortunate injury issues and inconsistencies, the overdue leap from Herro seems to finally be here.
It is truly a testament to his work ethic and mentality to the game to quiet the nose after all these years and prove everybody wrong. He has rightfully earned his flowers, and the Player of the Week title is just the beginning of him reaping the benefits. Herro has posted career-high’s in virtually every statistical category this season with his 24.2 points, 5.4 rebounds and 5.0 assists on 48/42/87 shooting splits.
But his game has taken strides in areas that are deeper than just what the box score shows. The overall shot diet and natural feel for reading the defense is much higher than in years past. Herro has the talent to create offense at any spot on the floor, but he has essentially eliminated his midrange game.
Instead, he is putting together a combination of rim attacks and outside shot making that has skyrocketed his efficiency to the best of his career.
The decision making and patience has matured and it is paying off for the Heat. An area where Herro showed struggles was the defensive end, but he is now much more active and impactful on that side as well. Herro has made it a point to become a stronger and quicker player over offseason workouts— something that has led to his two-way improvement.
Most importantly, Herro has slammed the door on the injury concerns, appearing in all 22 games for Miami this season. It has been refreshing for all of Heat Nation to witness his rise to stardom, and he could be due for several more accolades in the near future if he continues at this rate.
