The Miami Heat are locked into a Play-In Tournament spot for the fourth-straight year after losing to the Toronto Raptors (121-95) Tuesday night. And Bam Adebayo's reaction in his postgame availability told the entire story.
After losing to the Raptors, Bam sounded like a pretty broken man - one that had finally realized that the Heat had officially fallen short of the goal they set out to achieve last fall.
Bam is tired of being stuck in mediocrity
Even though the Bam was doing everything in his power to remain positive, the tone that he spoke with (and his body language) didn't match. It was clear he was upset, and it's difficult to blame him for having that human response.

From the onset in training camp, the goal for this Heat team was clear. It was fair and pretty achievable. Understanding that this roster was limited, the Heat's goal wasn't to win a championship. Instead, it was to get out of the Play-In Tournament.
More specifically, Miami wanted to bust out of the mediocrity that the team had been stuck in for the past few years. While breaking out of the Play-In Tournament wasn't the only way to accomplish that, it was a good first step.
For this team, it was a good barometer to aim for. But despite a few bright stretches this season, most notably through the first 21 games when the Heat was 14-7, they fell short.
They weren't consistent enough; they weren't good enough. Just like it showed Tuesday night against the sixth-seeded Raptors.
The Heat were set up for failure
The most frustrating part of all this, especially for the players, is that there's not much they can do about it anymore. The roster doesn't fit together, they didn't play consistently enough, and they didn't have enough top-level talent to win despite all that.
In the NBA, talent generally outperforms great fit. That means as long as you have the star power, there's a little more forgiveness when it comes to team construction. But this Heat team doesn't have either.
They don't have the elite talent, and they're poorly assembled. That's a big reason why the Heat are back in the Play-In Tournament, and why they're likely staring down another first-round playoff exit (if they're even lucky to make it that far).
The locker room can't be happy. Even if fans saw this coming from a mile away, this season has just officially entered disaster territory.
