If it wasn't clear before, it sure is now. As Bam Adebayo continues to take a stranglehold of the lead reins for the Miami Heat, he keeps proving that he's more than just a defensive force. His historic 83-point performance (passing Kobe Bryant as the second most points scored in a single game) in the Heat's drubbing of the Washington Wizards was just the latest example of that.
Bam's 83 points stand as the second-highest scoring performance in NBA history, behind only Wilt Chamberlain’s 100-point night.
Bam finished with 83 points, nine rebounds, and three assists on 20-43 shooting from the field against the Wizards, but he's been on an offensive tear for the last two months. Since breaking out of a multiple-week slump in mid-January, Bam has led the way for the Heat.
Bam has taken his game to another level
During the last 27 games, Bam is averaging 23 points and 10 rebounds on 45 percent shooting from the field and 34 percent shooting from 3-point range. In addition to being an elite defender and possibly the NBA's Defensive Player of the Year, Bam has clearly upped his offensive game.

1. Wilt Chamberlain: 100 points
2. Bam Adebayo, 83 points
3. Kobe Bryant, 81 points
Always thought of as more of a third or, at best, second option for the Heat on the offensive end of the floor, Bam has somewhat been forced into a different role for the team this season. And, after some growing pains earlier this season, Bam has answered the bell.
In one of the most crucial stretches of the season for the Heat, Bam is not only taking his game to another level, but he's carrying the team with him.
The Heat have been dominant with Bam on the floor
Entering Tuesday night's game against the Wizards, the Heat were outscoring opponents by 21 points per 100 possessions with Bam on the floor. That proves that not only is Bam an elite defender, but he's also getting the job done offensively.
And while the Heat may not have enough on their current roster to win an NBA Championship with that same formula, there's reason to believe that this team could emerge as a dangerous playoff underdog heading into the postseason.
A couple of weeks ago, Bam said he was tired of being a Play-In Tournament team. Over the last few weeks, he's backed up that sentiment.
Bam is much more than just a defensive cornerstone at this point in his career. And it seems like he's been on a mission to prove that over the last few weeks. Tuesday night against the Wizards was no different as he continued to send a strong message to his doubters.
