Tyler Herro is one of the most overrated players in the NBA, according to Bleacher Report. And in what has quickly turned into a season to forget for Herro, it's really hard for Miami Heat fans to push back against that argument right now.
This is not anyone saying that Herro is a bad player in the league. He's far from that. However, when you take into context his contract, what role he has been playing on the Heat, his injuries, and how Miami has managed him through the first few years of his career, it's easy to see why Herro has fallen into the "overrated" category.
Just look at the rest of this list; this is not a huge knock on Herro's game in a vacuum. Draymond Green, Anthony Davis, Zion Williamson, and Jaren Jackson Jr. are also on this list. That's four really good players.
Each of them, however, similarly to Herro, is also slightly overrated to a certain extent. And that's why it's truly hard to rebut in a successful way. Even more so, considering the disastrous year that Herro has had this season.
Tyler Herro's injuries have changed his narrative
Mostly due to injury, Herro has had a truly bad year at perhaps the worst possible moment. In hopes of proving to the Heat that he does deserve a contract extension this summer, Herro's injuries have completely altered his perception around the league and, perhaps most importantly, within the Heat.
Herro entered this season on the mend after offseason surgery. But since returning from that offseason injury, it's almost as if nothing has gone right for the former All-Star guard. After finally getting over the foot injury, Herro has missed extensive time this season with nagging toe and rib ailments.
At the NBA All-Star break, Herro has only played in 11 games this season. In those games, Herro continues to be productive and efficient, but the injuries have certainly placed a dark cloud around his future in Miami.
Right now, it's difficult to predict what Herro's future will hold. But it almost certainly won't come with a contract extension this offseason, something that, in a perfect world, Herro would've loved to see play out.
That doesn't mean his future won't be in Miami. However, this disastrous year for Herro has certainly put some serious uncertainty surrounding that idea.
Even if Herro is slightly overrated, he's still a very good young player. And if he can shake off the injury concerns, he can still be an effective player in today's game, no matter what this list of the most overrated players in th league might say.
