During his official Miami Heat introduction press conference, Bobby Portis didn't waste any time in becoming a true fan favorite.
Sure, all the attention is squarely on Giannis Antetokounmpo, and understandably so, but, especially with the way he was speaking during his press conference, Portis is going to quickly talk - and play - his way into the good graces of Heat fans.
From his connection to the Heat as a fan when he was younger to being all about winning, Portis oozed Heat Culture.
“I was born to be a heatle. It fits right in. This was my favorite team growing up. Just want to put that out there.”
"The conversations I had with Giannis has just always been about winning. Where can we go to win? How can we get another championship? Once you guys talk to him at 3 you’ll understand all he cares about is winning.”
Portis would also speak to his potential role on the Heat off the bench, noting that he's going to bring the effort and confidence needed every night.

From the moment he stepped onto the stage during his introductory press conference, it was clear that Portis fit right in with the Heat. The toughness, work ethic, and winning mentality. It's all there. If that translates to on-the-court effectiveness, Portis could quickly emerge as one of the most valuable Heat players.
The hope is that not only could he be that off the floor for Miami, but also on the court because of his familiarity with Giannis.
The fact that he's coming off one of the most efficient seasons of his career thus far is a good sign. Especially considering that Erik Spoelstra and the Heat have had a knack for getting the most and best out of players.
If that trend does continue, with both Portis and Giannis, the Heat will find themselves in a pretty good spot heading into next season.
But no matter how good Giannis (and Bam Adebayo) will be this season, the Heat are going to need some of their depth pieces to step up in a big way too. That's where Portis' role becomes that much more important for the Heat.
