Every critic of Giannis Antetokounmpo will quickly regret their words. That's because if there's one certainty with the Miami Heat now that they've acquired the superstar forward, it's that Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra is going to get the best out of Giannis.
So, for every talking head that believes Giannis has already passed his prime or that he can't be an A1 star on a championship team anymore, they should think again. And, perhaps most importantly, recognize Spo's track record.
It's what he's consistently done throughout the course of his career.
LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Jimmy Butler all had their best years of their career under Spo. The same could be said about numerous other players (Caleb Martin, Max Strus, Gabe Vincent, to name a few) that Spo has coached over the last few years.
A revitalized Giannis will fuel the Heat's resurgence
It'd be foolish to expect anything different from Giannis. Especially if he's ready to be "coached hard," that tells you everything you need to know about where his head is heading into this fresh start with the Heat.
And if Giannis is truly embracing this opportunity with a chip on his shoulder, he's going to fuel the Heat's resurgence into a possible championship contender. No matter what the supporting pieces end up looking like around Giannis, the Heat's overall team success will hinge on how he's going to set the tone for the rest of the group.
Even though Bam is the captain of the team, Giannis is going to lead the way. He's the best player on the team and has the capabilities to tap into being the best player on the planet. There have been questions about whether he can still be that player. They've been noted.
But if there's a chance he can still be that player, you can bet that Spo is going to be the one to get it out of him. That's just something you have to trust.
If Spo and Giannis can click quickly, they're going to silence many of the critics.
For those saying that Giannis is on a retirement tour. Those who are saying the Heat are Milwaukee South. And even those who don't believe Giannis can remain healthy. They're all, for better or worse, betting on this gamble not working for Giannis and the Heat.
There's on variable they may have forgotten in this entire formula, and that's Spo.
He may not be the perfect coach and is not above criticism, but he consistently gets the best out of his players. And if he can do that with Giannis, the rest of the league better watch out.
