There isn’t enough depth now that the Miami Heat gutted the roster! The Miami Heat need more three-point shooting around Giannis Antetokounmpo! He doesn’t have a good enough supporting cast! All of those were public concerns after the Heat traded for Antetokounmpo this summer. And through the Heat’s first three games, they are all coming true.
It’s been about as disastrous a start to the season, to say the least. Antetokounmpo has been an absolute monster. He’s still one of the best players in the league. But everyone else around him just hasn’t been bringing enough to the table. And if Miami wants to compete for a championship this year, that needs to change.
If things don’t turn around in Miami sooner rather than later, the Antetokounmpo trade could be a complete waste.
The Heat have been a disaster
In their season opener, the Heat got bludgeoned by the Minnesota Timberwolves. Anthony Edwards and LaMelo Ball rained down a ton of threes, and the Heat couldn’t keep up.
Then, in their next game, they lost to the Detroit Pistons. Actually, they got destroyed by the Pistons. It was a bloodbath once again. Another double-digit loss.
Then, on Saturday night, the Heat lost to the Charlotte Hornets. They were down by 20 points at one point in the game. And even though they came back a bit, they still lost.
Antetokounmpo has been the Heat’s best player by a mile. He’s putting up insane numbers. Meanwhile, his co-star – Bam Adebayo – hasn’t been able to get his feet under him just yet.
Through Miami’s first three games, Adebayo is putting up just 13.0 points per game, shooting a brutal 42.9% from the field and 23.1% from beyond the three-point arc.
In fact, the Heat’s second-leading scorer behind Antetokounmpo has been Davion Mitchell this year. He’s putting up 17.0 points per game. He’s been lights-out from beyond the arc.
Unfortunately, he’s the only guy exceeding expectations right now. Outside of Antetokounmpo and Mitchell, everyone has been struggling.
Miami isn’t shooting the three-ball well. The Heat’s depth has been bad, too. Both of those were major concerns following the trade for Antetokounmpo, and they seem to be a harsh reality now.
The Heat have been getting beat up at every turn. For a team that’s supposed to be one of the best in the East, they have been anything but. They’ve looked more like the last couple of years of Milwaukee Bucks teams than the team that’s supposed to save this part of Antetokounmpo’s career.
