The much-anticipated Pat Riley end-of-the-season press conference has officially come and gone, and we have you covered with everything Miami Heat fans need to know.
As the aftershocks continue to tremble from Riley's comments, let's highlight a few portions of his press conference that Heat fans are going to want to hear. It wasn't perfect, and there are going to be some criticisms, but Riley did give enough to warrant some takeaways.
Highlights from Pat Riley's press conference
At the top of it, Riley made it abundantly clear that he wasn't going anywhere. He's not retiring. He's not resigning. And he doesn't plan on stepping aside right now. If there were any questions about that possibility, it's pretty safe to say that Riley isn't ready to step away just yet.

“I’m not going to retire. I’m not going to resign. I’m not going to step aside.”
Could that theoretically change between now and the start of the offseason? Sure. However, at least for now, the expectation should be that Riley is going to play a big part in the front office's decisions this summer.
Riley then spoke about how he felt as the Heat continued to remain stuck in a state of mediocrity. In simple terms, he's not happy.
Pat Riley:

“I’m really pissed. I’m disappointed. Disgruntled. Just like everybody else in the organization that knows what we’re about.”
“The last 3 or 4 years with the exception of the 2023 season has been something I’m not proud of.”
It's not exactly surprising, but it was refreshing to hear this sentiment from one of the front office figures. The fact that the status quo is not good enough for the Heat is going to be well-recieved from the fan base.
Of course, that may not be enough. What's the point of all this without a big change? That will certainly be one of the big tests heading into the offseason.
For those hoping that there was going to be a shift in the front office philosophy after this season, think again. Riley doubles down on the team's polarizing decision to play for the sixth seed.

“I’m not going to try to lose. I’m not going to tank.”
Touching on the idea of change this offseason, Riley mentioned how they are not set up with more assets to try and pull off an upgrade. Riley notes that the Heat will still be "aggressive" in an attempt to make the team better this summer.
But, especially as we've witnessed with the Heat over the last few years, that doesn't guarantee anything. Intent is appreciated by the fan base, but there have to be some results eventually.

Riley also spoke to the idea of having cap space in 2027. It was still an odd statement to make, considering how NBA Free Agency isn't what it used to be. For one reason or another, Riley is still parading around as if cap space means anything of substance.

Riley also noted that getting Bam Adebayo help this offseason will be a priority for the Heat's front office. He also admitted that he was able to sense Bam's frustration after the season. For those in the fan base suggesting that was the case, this was a big win for them.
It's hard to blame him, but it's now pretty clear that the Heat desperately need to get Bam help this summer.

“I had a great exit interview with Bam. I sense his frustration. Just like Dwayne’s frustration, just like Shaquille’s frustration, like Zo’s frustration.”
Mentions “getting somebody to help him, somebody that is different.”
When speaking to not making moves at the NBA Trade Deadline, Riley did have one interesting comment, in which he said: "We liked our roster, we kept the roster together, we were not selling, we were just sort of waiting.”
It adds a little mystery, but it does give the indication of an expectation of something to come. It's certainly something to hold on to heading into the offseason.
Riley also admitted what many have been hinting at over the last few months. I guess it's finally time to put that to bed. He doesn't have the final say. Never has, in his words, and finally said it.
Pat Riley: "I don't have final say here. I've never had it. I never had it when I came. And quite frankly, I don't think I want it."

He also gave his two cents on the Bam and Kel'el Ware fit, stating that sometimes you have to stick with it when the results aren't obvious right away.
Riley on Ware and Spoelstra, "As far as Kel'el and Bam, I like it. You've got to be committed to it." Adds, "You simply have to stay with it when young players are not performing at their highest."

Riley also quickly shot down the trading Bam speculation, stating that he wants to keep building around him.

"I want to build this around Bam."
Riley's end-of-the-season press conference is just the first step of what many expected to be a chaotic offseason full of change. That's certainly not guaranteed, but that's clearly the hope for many within the Heat fan base.
And, at this point, how can you blame them?
The Heat has some goodwill to earn back from a fan base that is as close to rock bottom as they've been in quite some time. It'll be interesting to see how this summer unfolds for Miami.
