Everyone knows that Giannis Antetokounmpo would like to end his career in Milwaukee, back where it all started, but that's not necessarily something that you say. Not weeks after being traded to the Miami Heat, let alone before he's even played a minute for the franchise.
Nevertheless, Giannis didn't hold back when expressing his feelings about his concerns with Miami and how he'd love to end his career with the Bucks (if they'd welcome him back) on a recent podcast.
“I really believed that I would stay in Milwaukee for my entire career....And I am happy to be in Miami. I can’t lie, I don’t feel comfortable in Miami. I’ll go there and do my best…. I bleed purple and green… Basketball wise, I had a great time there. That will always be in my heart. That will never leave. I don’t know but I hope when the Miami chapter closes, and I don’t know when or if it will, and I don’t know how many years I’ll spend there, but I wish to return to Milwaukee if they’ll have me.”
Heat fans could've gone without this comment from Giannis
While it's hard to blame Giannis for expressing this honest admission, especially considering he spent the first 13 years of his career with the Bucks, this had to be difficult for Heat fans to hear. Giannis hasn't even played a game for the franchise, and a return to Milwaukee may already be on his mind.
Part of this is likely the fact that Giannis is in reflection mode as he prepares to begin a new chapter of his career, but it is somewhat odd that he would make such an admission now. When he was going through the entire trade process, Giannis wouldn't share much about the situation, which led to so much confusion about what was true and what wasn't.
But now that it's all done, Giannis has been an open book.
Again, it's hard to blame Giannis, especially if he was, in fact, holding back over the last few months, but at the same time, none of these comments can feel great if you're a Heat fan.
Heat fans want to hear excitement about what's next. They want to hear that Giannis is looking to prove everything wrong after a year of doubting him. They want to hear how he's fully healthy and ready to take this season in stride. They want to hear commitment from Giannis.
Instead, Giannis is talking about a possible return to Milwaukee in the future.
Heat fans are still at an all-time high after a huge offseason, but there's no question they'd want to hear Giannis officially close the book on his feelings about Milwaukee, especially considering that chapter of his career is over, even if it is just for the time being.
