In response to the Heat's selection to play on Christmas Day, Giannis oozed excitement and, in some ways, took the words out of Heat fans' mouths. This is exactly what fans want to hear as they prepare for a new chapter with Giannis.
“That’s going to be fun. I haven’t played on Christmas for a while now, NBA. C’mon now. I’m just excited to give fans a little excitement. I also enjoy being at home with my kids during Christmas but there’s nothing better than a little kid opening his gift and then turning on the TV watching NBA games. I’m exited for that and gonna put on a show. I’m going to get a win too”
Giannis is the alpha superstar that the Heat desperately needed
The excitement that Giannis is bringing to the Heat organization is something that they've been missing over the last few years. When the magic around Jimmy Butler started disappearing, probably sooner than expected, the Heat was left in a puddle of mediocrity. And it was a fight to escape it.
After two difficult years, in which the Heat was trying to figure out what was next for the franchise, which also included a messy breakup with Jimmy, they have hit a gold mine with Giannis.
Giannis hasn't played a game for the Heat yet, but he's already been the superstar Heat fans have been dreaming of. Even though Jimmy did bring some of the same excitement and bravado that Giannis has, this is on an entirely different level.
Jimmy was a great player in his own right, and probably better than most expected him to be, but Giannis has a much higher ceiling. At his best, Giannis is a head-and-shoulders better player than Jimmy. That's not necessarily a knock on Jimmy, but it's a testament to how good Giannis is.
So as the Heat prepares for its new season with Giannis, it's only natural for the excitement to be at an all-time high. And if Giannis can back up these types of comments, there's a good chance this is going to be one of the most memorable seasons in recent Heat history.
