The Miami Heat could offer LeBron James a great opportunity to compete for one more championship before his career is over if the right dominoes fall into place over the next few weeks.
It would start with trading for Giannis Antetokounmpo, opening the door to then sign LeBron with their non-taxpayer midlevel exception. Whether he would entertain such an offer remains to be seen. But, at least on paper, if this scenario were to play out, there's no question this could be an intriguing option for LeBron.
The Los Angeles Lakers, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Golden State Warriors could all present interesting opportunities for LeBron this summer. But if things fall in their favor, so can the Heat.
And if LeBron's priority this offseason is going to revolve around putting himself in the best position to win one more championship, he'd be foolish not to consider a potential offer from Miami.
Would the Heat welcome a LeBron James return?
On paper, there's reason to believe that such a move would work for both sides. But the ultimate question is, would either really want to go down this path again?
Even though time has healed most wounds between the Heat and LeBron, there's no guarantee either side will want to jump at the opportunity again. Does LeBron really want to play the final season of his career in Miami?
Does the Heat want all that pomp and circumstance, in addition to what would theoretically be Giannis' first season in Miami? Honestly, it's difficult to say that would be a resounding "yes" for either side.
And that's completely understandable.
Despite the complexities of such a decision, that doesn't mean it wouldn't make sense on paper. And at least from a fan perspective, this would help sell a year one build around Giannis that much more.
LeBron could add an interesting element to a build around Giannis
For all the concerns that surround what a supporting cast around Giannis in Miami would look like, LeBron would certainly help calm many of those fears. If the Heat were to get into that position, and LeBron was genuinely open to other non-California teams this summer, it wouldn't be all that surprising to see Miami throw their name in the hat.
After all, who wouldn't want to see a frontcourt that features LeBron, Giannis, and Bam? Without being too hyperbolic, it'd probably be the best frontcourt trio in the league. At the very least, the best in the Eastern Conference.
Sure, there are a few things that would need to fall into place first for the Heat, but the fact that this is even a mere possibility is pretty crazy. And one that LeBron would, at the very least, have to give it a quick thought.
