Bruce Brown is a new potential free-agent target that could end up emerging for the Miami Heat. If the Heat were to entertain the hometown wing as a potential addition, it would almost certainly be a move that would signal a prioritization of depth heading into the next season.
According to NBA insider Jake Fischer, Brown is a name to keep a close eye on as the Heat looks to finalize their roster around Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo. And because of his connection to South Florida, it's almost assumed there'd be at least some interest on both sides.

On paper, it's hard to envision how Brown would fill the gap for Miami as a playmaker or a 3-point shooter. However, for a team that needs depth, he'd immediately emerge as an option that would make sense for Miami.
Even if the Heat aren't able to directly address their shooting or playmaking, there's value in adding another depth piece like Brown. He may not be at his peak anymore, but over the course of his career, he's proven himself as a worthy contributing piece.
And if the Heat views Brown, still just 29 years old, as also somewhat of a reclamation project, this is one of those moves that could make even more sense.
If there's anything that the Heat may love more than chasing superstars, it might be successful reclamation projects. Over the past couple of decades, the Heat has found success going down this path. Maybe Brown could be the next candidate for Miami.
Bruce Brown could bring veteran leadership and stability on the wing
Even though the Heat should feel comfortable with Davion Mitchell, Tim Hardaway Jr. and Dru Smith in the backcourt, adding a veteran like Brown could really solidify the backcourt. He'd also give the Heat some versatility on the wing.
Brown may not be "great" in any one particular area of his game, but he has all the tools to be a valuable piece on a championship team. Even during his breakout season, in 2022-23, in Denver, Brown never truly got the recognition he deserved.
Since bouncing around on three different teams in the last three years, not much has changed. But perhaps a new challenge in Miami is exactly what Brown needs at this point in his career.
If the Heat are willing, maybe there's a fit for Brown alongside Giannis and Bam. It'd certainly make sense from a depth point of view.
