Perhaps it's time to get Bam Adebayo a star point guard, one that would completely change the game for the entire Miami Heat franchise. If the recent rumors are any indication, a potential dream co-star and trade target for the Heat could be about to hit the market: Trae Young.

Young is a player many teams across the league are keeping a close eye on, especially if he and the Atlanta Hawks fail to reach an agreement on a contract extension this summer. He's contract eligible, but in the words of ESPN's Shams Charania, if Young doesn't get the max extension he desires this summer, he'll most likely wait until the summer of 2026, when he could hit free agency, to make an ultimate decision on his future.

Considering how the Heat have been slowly positioning themselves to be big players during the 2026 offseason, these latest rumblings have to be considered music to the front office's ears.

Even though I'm not sure Young exactly would be the dream co-star pairing for the Heat next to Bam, there's no question that this player architect certainly is.

A star point guard would change the math for the Heat

Young is certainly a player who has his flaws, but for as electric of a lead star as he is on the offensive end of the floor, there's no question he'd drastically change things for the Heat if they were to land him.

As one of the best playmakers in the league, coming off a season in which he led the league in assists, Young doesn't get nearly the amount of respect he deserves with the ball in his hands. He's also one of the most electric scorers of the basketball.

Even though he's not coming off the most efficient of seasons, much of that has to do with the lack of talent that he's currently surrounded by in Atlanta. There's reason to believe that could change if he were suddenly playing next to Bam and a much more talented supporting cast in Miami, compared to what Atlanta had last season.

From a pure basketball perspective, a Bam-Young duo would inject a ton of excitement back into this fan base and would bring the star power that is currently desired.

Would this duo be enough to be a foundation for a championship build? That remains to be seen. However, this is the type of move that would certainly excite the fan base and open the door to a revival of relevance for the Heat in the Eastern Conference.

If there is any credence to these rumors, I suppose it may be time to add Young to the list of targets that could arise for the Heat next summer.
