The Miami Heat could not get a single game against the Toronto Raptors this season, as they dropped the second game of a back-to-back against the Raptors in a similar fashion to their first loss earlier this week, a blowout.Â
The loss, Miami's 39th of the season, keeps them solely in the 10th and final play-in seed, and with just two more games to go, it doesn't look good for climbing up a seed or two. They may not get the chance to, depending on what the Charlotte Hornets do with their remaining games.Â
Not only did the Heat lose to the Raptors again, but they also showed again a complete failure to stop Toronto's offense led by Brandon Ingram. After Tuesday's loss, Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra called it "embarrassing," and Thursday's wasn't all that different.Â
Heat left any momentum they could have picked up at the door after a second terrible loss to the Toronto Raptors.
While the loss was a stinger, the Heat did play better in certain areas this time around. Miami managed just 34 points in the paint against the Raptors on Tuesday, but Thursday was a different result with 58 points. The Heat also shot the three-ball significantly better.Â
Bam Adebayo played a much better game and shot the ball better than he did earlier in the week, going 2-for-4 from beyond the arc and 9-for-14 from the floor, scoring 24 points. Tyler Herro, Davion Mitchell, and Jaime Jaquez Jr. off the bench each tallied 15 points respectively, and at least Herro and Jaquez shot over 50% from three.Â
Offensively, the Heat were much better, but they could not stop Toronto's offense or Ingram's season-high 38 points. Ingram was on target all night, and the Raptors took 20 more free throws than Miami, which proved to be a turning point in the game.Â
The Heat did manage to fight back in the second half, going on a 33-13 run behind a barrage of three-pointers, slicing the deficit to six with just over three minutes left in the third quarter, but the Heat never got closer than that for the rest of the game, as the Raptors went on their own 12-2 run to open the fourth quarter, and it was all over at the point.
Unfortunately, despite Adebayo's bounce-back effort, the rest of the Heat weren't able to execute a team-wide bounce-back game. The Heat have now lost 10 of their last 13 games, but still have two more opportunities to finish the regular season on a high note.Â
The Heat will finish their road schedule on Friday against the Washington Wizards before heading back home to end their season against the Atlanta Hawks over the weekend. There isn't anything Miami can do to drastically change their seeding, but they can at least go into the play-in tournament with a win or two.Â
