The Miami Heat will officially get an additional second-round pick in the 2026 NBA Draft as added compensation from the Charlotte Hornets to settle the Terry Rozier dispute. Even though it's certainly something, this "resolution" should be considered an absolute slap in the face.

The Heat originally traded Kyle Lowry and a first-round pick to the Hornets in exchange for Terry Rozier. However, Rozier is currently under NBA and federal investigations over an alleged gambling conspiracy. He hasn't played for the Heat or been with the team this season because of that.

Due to the investigation, there was a public call for the league to revisit the original deal. There were even some calling for the entire deal to be rescinded, resulting in the Heat getting their first-round pick back. Even though that, theoretically, could've been an option on the table, there was never any traction toward that.

The Heat can finally move on...I guess

With the desire to end the dilemma, the NBA decided that this was an acceptable amendment to the original 2024 deal. Rozier is still away from the team and is unlikely to play in the NBA anytime soon, if ever again, but the Heat can't be happy with this decision.

Unfortunately, they'll have to find a way to make it work.

I suppose if it's any consolation, the Heat can finally move on from the Rozier situation. His contract expires after this season, and now that they know the league isn't going to rescind the entire deal, the Heat will have to try to make lemonade out of the lemons of an extra second-round pick.

Terry Rozier will go down as a massive miscalculation from the Heat

Looking back, there aren't many more mistakes that will outshine the Heat's whiff on Rozier a couple of years ago. While there were some flashes, Rozier never grew into the role player that the Heat believed he could be with the team.

It seemed he got progressively worse during his time with the Heat, leading to him completely falling out of the rotation by the end of last season.

If nothing else, the trade of Rozier will go down as a cautionary tale that this front office will surely learn from.

Overall, the Heat should be massively underwhelmed by this resolution from the league and the Hornets. But, again, without much precedent for this exact situation, it was almost impossible to predict how this would all end. Still, this ending just adds insult to injury for Miami.

For the Heat, this will be disrespectful all around. Even for the most optimistic of fans, it's hard to be excited or satisfied with this verdict.
