Things can certainly change on a dime in the Association, but with the way things are currently trending, it does seem as if the Miami Heat are inching closer and closer to trading for Kevin Durant. Whether or not the Heat will finish the job this time around remains to be seen, but KD could be the first big domino to fall for Miami this offseason.

There are a couple of reporting details that should have Heat fans thinking that KD is a very real possibility at this point. First, it's been reported by Jake Fischer that the Minnesota Timberwolves and Heat are currently considered the most likely landing spots for KD. Again, a lot can change, but that's what Fischer is hearing at the moment.

Secondly, a Wolves insider did admit that while Minnesota and Phoenix have held talks for KD, nothing was close. Again, anything can change at any given moment, but it does seem that if KD is going to be traded anytime soon, it may be to the Heat.

If Miami is willing to include Kel'el Ware, which they've reportedly been reluctant to do, this could be a done deal. Maybe that's the only holdup that is taking place. At this point, it wouldn't be surprising, especially how the Heat have conducted business of late.

The Heat's fan base will have a divided reaction either way this offseason

No matter what ends up happening on the KD front, it's pretty safe to say that the Heat's fan base is probably going to be a divisive group. There's a certain amount of the fan base that is desperate for Miami to make a move for a star player, and KD does meet that barometer. However, there's another sector of the fan base that believes this move would be a mistake.

Either way, the Heat's fan base will not be completely happy. But, then again, isn't that every fanbase across sports? At the end of the day, fans should be rooting for entertainment. And that's what trading for KD would bring to the Heat.

If the Heat aren't willing to completely rebuild the roster this summer, why not make a bold move for KD? Why not try to take advantage of an inconsistent Eastern Conference? Why not try to sell more tickets with the big star acquisition?

It's understandable to want the Heat to adapt to the modern NBA and to want to build a more conventional way. However, that's not how this franchise has operated ever, and they've been vocal about not wanting to go down that path. At least now with this current leadership in place.

If Miami moves forward with trading for KD, enjoy it. Have fun. If not, I guess it'll be interesting to see what plan B for this offseason looks like. But it appears as if the Heat has a very real shot at landing KD. For a moment, be a fan. Be excited. Enjoy the process. That's what this should be all about.
