Giannis Antetokounmpo may not be the only exciting trade possibility that the Miami Heat could theoretically explore this offseason. Ja Morant has been another name that has been linked to the Heat over the last few months.

However, in the words of Heat insider Barry Jackson, it's pretty safe to cross Morant off the list of offseason possibilities. At least for now.

As he notes, things can certainly change. Especially if it becomes obvious that Giannis is not a realistic option for the Heat. For now, though, it doesn't appear as if Morant is currently on their radar.

Considering how much the Heat has struggled this season, and figuring how much of a talent discrepancy they have compared to the other elite teams, it would be somewhat foolish for the Heat not to be interested in a move that could help boost this team's locker room.

The Heat don't want to take a risk on Ja Morant

However, for one reason or another, it feels as if the front office doesn't want to take the gamble with Morant. And that could end up being a big mistake.

When healthy, Morant has the potential to be one of the best guards in the NBA. He's proven that in the past. In fairness, he has struggled over the last few seasons. And his contract (two years, $86 million) would not be easy for the Heat to swallow.

Still, despite all of those concerns, I find it absolutely foolish for the Heat to willingly pass on the opportunity to add that level of talent to the roster.

Especially if the Heat believes in their developmental system and their ability to rebuild the reputations of players, Morant would be an interesting project for the franchise.

Ja Morant could be an exciting pairing next to Bam Adebayo

And if it were to pay off, it would have huge dividends.

In theory, Morant would be a dream pairing alongside Bam Adebayo. He also has the alpha energy that the Heat has been lacking since they traded Jimmy Butler.

For the Heat to suddenly develop cold feet when it comes to taking a gamble on a star power just doesn't seem characteristic of them. I find it odd. But, again, perhaps that has more to do with the team's desire to pursue Giannis (or another high-level superstar) than it does with Morant.

If the Heat does miss out on some of their bigger trade targets this offseason, I'd fully expect them to circle back to their previous interest in Morant.

But, at least for now, that may not currently be in the cards. And that should, at the very least, be somewhat concerning for fans.
