Miami Heat rookie Kel’el Ware has been sent to the G League and will not play against the Los Angeles Lakers Wednesday night at Kaseya Center, the team announced.
Kel'el Ware will miss Wednesday's game vs the Lakers after being sent to the Heat's G League affiliate.
Ware and Nikola Jovic (ankle) were both ruled out. Jimmy Butler (knee), Kevin Love (back) and Josh Richardson (illness) are listed as questionable.
It’s been an inconsistent start to Ware’s rookie season. He’s played 69 minutes in 10 games, totaling 24 points, 16 rebounds, one assists and five blocks while shooting 40% from the field before missing the last two games with a foot injury.
Going to the G League should not be viewed as a demotion. Playing for the Heat’s G League affiliate in Sioux Falls, Ware will have a chance to carefully return from an injury and get reps against easier competition.
Meanwhile, the Heat face a tough stretch of games beginning with LeBron James and the Lakers. Anthony Davis is likely to play despite a left foot injury, but starting guard Austin Reaves is questionable with a pelvic contusion,
After that, the Heat will host the Phoenix Suns and Cleveland Cavaliers in back to back games over the weekend.
It’s unclear when Ware will return. With Love dealing with a bothersome back injury, he could be inserted into the rotation as Bam Adebayo’s backup when the Heat call him up. For now, Thomas Bryant will sop up those minutes.
