Davion Mitchell has been a great find for the Miami Heat, but it's becoming increasingly unlikely that he's going to remain with the team if they somehow figure out a way to land Ja Morant ahead of the NBA Trade Deadline.

For the Heat's current roster, Mitchell has been a great addition. However, it's clear the Heat values Mitchell, but will be open to dumping him if they get the opportunity to land an upgrade at the position.

According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, teams across the league are keeping a close eye on Mitchell as the Heat explores the Morant situation. That leaves the impression that rivals around the league believe the Heat may look to trade him if Morant becomes a likely trade option for the team.

Why Davion Mitchell would be a prime trade target across the league

From an objective perspective, it's easy to see that Mitchell would be an extremely attractive trade target. In his first full season in Miami, Mitchell is having a career year in terms of overall offensive efficiency and playmaking. He's also on a great contract. Mitchell is making $11.6 million this season and is on the books for just $12.4 million next year.

If there's a contender that is looking for a value contract at the guard position, there may not be a better option than Mitchell heading into the trade deadline.

Should the Heat need to dump Mitchell, or if they desire to add another asset by moving him, there's reason to believe that he'd have a strong market.

If Miami were to acquire Morant, there would not be a lot of room for Mitchell. And that's the honest truth that fans may not want to admit right now.

Davion Mitchell could make sense next to Giannis Antetokounmpo

In fairness, that'd be a completely different story if the Heat were attempting to acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo. In that scenario, it would make much more sense for them to try to keep Mitchell as part of the supporting cast around him.

But for a potential pursuit of Morant, it would almost be surprising if the long-term plan was to keep both guards on the roster.

Miami clearly values Mitchell; I don't think that's up for debate at this point. However, as has been the Heat's MO over the last couple of decades, if there's an opportunity for an upgrade, I can't envision this team hesitating to make a move.

And, unfortunately, this time around, it may come at the expense of Mitchell, who has become one of the team's most celebrated stories this season.
