LeBron James could be about to hold the NBA hostage once again this offseason. And, more specifically, it could legitimately play a big role in what the Miami Heat may be able to do or not do this summer.
LeBron is going to be an unrestricted free agent after this season, with a myriad of contenders likely interested in his services. Even more so if he shows a willingness to take somewhat of a pay cut at this point in his career. But depending on whether he decides his future before free agency, once it's in full swing, or months in, it could play a huge role across the league.
LeBron could leave many teams in a waiting period until his decision is made. Even though the Heat aren't likely to be interested in LeBron, it could certainly play a big role in Giannis Antetokounmpo's future, and specifically surrounding his market (should he hit the trade block again).

At this point in his career, LeBron may not be the huge league domino that he once was, but there are several teams that could be lining up for a shot to land LeBron this summer. And many of those teams could wait out other big moves until that is resolved.
Not to mention the impact it could play on the Lakers, who are expected to be strong suitors of Giannis, especially if they're waiting around to see what LeBron decides to do.
Depending on what teams are involved, that could leave the Heat in a much more favorable position, or a worse one.
Either way, it's reasonable to say that LeBron will, once again, and this time in a completely unexpected way, have an impact on the Heat's offseason plans.
It may not have the direct impact that it will have on the Lakers, or teams like the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers, but there are other branches of the offseason that this could involve the Heat.
A few months away from the offseason, Miami is almost certainly going to be locked in on its pursuit of Giannis (or perhaps another star player), but there's no question that LeBron's upcoming decision, even at this stage of his career, and the timing of it, could end up having a huge impact on the Heat.
All eyes may not be completely focused on LeBron this summer, but he still has the chance to hold the league hostage one more time. That's why, at least to a certain extent, the Heat could be back at the mercy of LeBron this summer.
