Mitchell Robinson is expected to re-sign with the New York Knicks this summer, according to a recent report from ESPN. Assuming this will be the case, that means a premier free-agent backup center target for the Miami Heat may already be off the market.

No matter what happens on the star-hunting front for the Heat, there was a belief that they were going to head into the summer looking for a capable backup center. Whether it was to back up Kel'el Ware or to play a more prominent role on a new-look Heat, adding another center will almost certainly be a high priority for Miami.

However, after this latest news, the center market just lost a big piece. As one of the more intriguing options set to hit free agency, it appears that the Heat are going to have to look beyond Robinson this summer.

Robinson is coming off a strong bounce-back season in which he averaged six points and nine rebounds per game on 72 percent shooting from the field. Perhaps most importantly, Robinson played in 60 regular-season games this year. He's also played in 13 of New York's 14 playoff games during their run to the NBA Finals.

What other options could be on the table for the Heat?

Aside from Robinson, there are a few more intriguing options that the Heat could entertain, such as Nikola Vucevic, Jusuf Nurkic, Robert Williams III, Brook Lopez, or even Deandre Ayton. However, considering the role he's practically perfected on the Knicks, there's no question that Robinson would've been somewhat of an ideal fit for Miami.

No matter what the case for the Heat this summer, all their free-agency pursuits are going to come second fiddle to their continued pursuit of Giannis Antetokounmpo. The Heat still seems laser-focused on the idea of acquiring Giannis, and the hope is that resolution will happen sooner rather than later.

There's been a sense growing with the way the recent reporting has evolved that there could be a decision, one way or another, by the 2026 NBA Draft. At this point, I'm sure both Bucks and Heat fans are holding out hope for that possibility.

But, especially the way this entire saga has evolved, I'm not sure anyone will be holding their breath. And until that happens, almost all of the Heat's secondary offseason plans, including finding another center to add to their frontcourt depth, will be on hold.

That said, it is unfortunate to see a prime free-agent center target likely already off the market for the Heat.
