After losing to the Charlotte Hornets in the opening round of the Play-In Tournament, the Miami Heat will officially have a lottery pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. It's something that much of the fan base has been desperately asking for much of this season.

The Heat have finally given it to them.

Where that pick will land still has to be decided. For now, the Heat sits with the 13th overall pick at the moment, but it can improve to 12th if the Phoenix Suns lose in their second Play-In on Friday. Currently, their odds of earning a top 4 pick in the draft lottery sit at 4.8 percent, but again, that can rise to 7.1 percent if they rise to the 12th slot later this week.

The Heat will have a shot in the NBA Draft Lottery

All in all, the Heat will have a shot in the draft lottery, and, especially with how this season was trending over the last few months, this is something that fans have been begging for.

Most fans didn't want to see another postseason run end at the hands of a much better team in the first round of the NBA Playoffs. Most fans understood that this team had major flaws, and they were better suited to improve their draft positioning.

Even though they didn't do that a ton, because they refused to tank, just a shot at the lottery will be enough to appease most fans.

Perhaps most importantly, it will give them an opportunity to land a talented player in what many believe to be a loaded 2026 NBA Draft. But no matter how things play out in the draft lottery or who they end up taking with their top 13 pick, there's a big offseason on the horizon for Miami.

That much can't be debated.

A big offseason awaits for the Heat

Beyond the NBA Draft, the Heat have other big-picture questions that must be answered. Will they bring back Norman Powell, who will be an unrestricted free agent after the season? What do they do with Tyler Herro, who will be entering the final year of his contract next season? Will Andrew Wiggins opt into the final year of his deal? If so, what does that mean for his future in Miami?

After whiffing on Nikola Jovic, can the Heat possibly afford to give Jaime Jaquez Jr. and an early extension of his own? What's next for Kasparas Jakucionis and Kel'el Ware?

How will the Heat navigate not only their pursuit of Giannis Antetokounmpo, but also their interest in other star players who could hit the trade market this summer?

There are so many storylines and decisions to be made this offseason that suggest nothing will be easy for Miami. And, at this point, it's impossible to predict how it will all play out.

However, if there is one consolation prize for Miami, it's that they'll be able to head into a big offseason with a lottery selection in their back pocket. And, who knows, perhaps they could use some of their magic to turn it into a very, very good lottery pick at the draft lottery.

At the very least, fans can be happy about that before they enter a summer where their hearts could be completely torn out again.
