With one two-way roster spot left, the Miami Heat will have a difficult decision in who to give that final contract to. Especially after the summer league, the Heat have at least a couple of worthy candidates.
Vlad Goldin and Tre Donaldson currently fill two of the Heat's three two-way roster spots at the moment. However, the Heat have the ability to add a third two-way player if they so please. Before the start of training camp, it'd certainly be a goal for the Heat to fill that spot.
But, again, that could be a lot easier said than done. Not because it will be difficult for the Heat to find a player with potential, but because there are a few different paths the team could take.
A few standouts from the Heat's summer league
While Miami could look to an outside prospect to fill their final two-way roster spot heading into this upcoming season, it would be wise to start looking at a few of the team's standouts from their summer league first.
You'd have to imagine that's the process the front office will take over these next few days and potentially weeks before making a decision.
If that's the case, you almost have to begin with Trevor Keels. A true standout because of his exceptional 3-point shooting efficiency, Keels has to be a consideration. He's been with the Heat's developmental system for a year now, and after a strong season last year for the Skyforce, he could be in line for another opportunity on the Heat's main roster.
Tre White is another player who has stood out this summer. As an undrafted free agent, White could give the Heat another developmental wing who also showed a strong 3-point shooting prowess.
Ian Schieffelin is another player who could end up getting a strong look from the Heat. Somewhat of an undersized tweener, Schieffelin is an intriguing candidate for the Heat. If they're looking for another big they could potentially develop in the future, Schieffelin could be in the mix.
Again, the Heat could also look to sign another player who isn't currently signed to a two-way deal already off another summer league roster. It remains to be seen if that's something Miami would be willing to do, but it's something they've done in the past.
In short, the Heat will have options as they look to finalize every roster spot over the next couple of weeks. And while most seem to be talking about the big decision that needs to be made on the main roster, the final two-way roster spot could be just as difficult a decision.
