It'd be shocking if the Miami Heat gave Tyler Herro a contract extension this summer, and the team's official plans, backing that up, might've just been hinted at by Barry Jackson.

The longtime Heat reporter said on a recent podcast with Five Reasons Sports that if it were up to him, he would just trade Herro this summer, regardless of whether it's part of a star trade or not. He adds: "It couldn’t be clearer than the light of day that they are not offering Herro an extension."

And there's probably a very good chance that he hits it right on the money here.

Why the Tyler Herro era in Miami is likely over

There are so many reasons why it appears that Herro's time in Miami has come to an end. To Jackson's point, whether it's the injuries, the lack of schematic fit, his undefined role, the idea that he's likely hit his ceiling, or the honest fact that he's going to be seeking a contract that the Heat may not want to pay, the writing is on the wall.

Herro's run in Miami should be over. It has to be, right?

And, honestly, it might be beneficial for both sides. At this point in his career, Herro could use a fresh start (in a new city) as much as the Heat could use a new injection of talent.

Herro will be remembered as one of the Heat's best developmental stories in recent history. However, it does feel as if he's story with the team is played out.

Tyler Herro's has been a great success story for the Heat

After being selected 13th overall in the 2019 NBA Draft, it's amazing that Herro was able to work his way into developing into an All-Star player. Even if that was his ceiling, it's nothing to be ashamed about. There's credit on both sides for that accomplishment.

But, as the saying goes, all good things eventually come to an end. For the Heat and Herro, they may have finally reached that point in their relationship.

Add in the complexities to all the off-the-court uncertainty that the Heat is faced with, and it's difficult to deny that this is the best chance for a parting of the ways.

The Heat head into an offseason with plenty of uncertainty before them. However, interestingly enough, Herro may be a part of that any longer. Because, if the tea leaves are any indication, it does feel as if his time in Miami is all but over.

And maybe Jackson knows a little more than he's letting on.
