The Miami Heat are still missing one of the biggest things that Giannis Antetokounmpo needs to thrive: More offensive help. One of the biggest reasons Antetokounmpo struggled this past year was because the Milwaukee Bucks didn't put enough offensive support around him. And for as solid a roster as the Heat have, they still don't have great offensive support.
Inevitably, Bam Adebayo is going to score plenty of points. Obviously, we know he can score. He just put up 83 points in a game last season. But he's not who you think of when you think of a lead offensive creator. Antetokounmpo can be one, and he is going to have the ball in his hands a lot, but he wasn't always the lead creator on the best version of the Bucks.
Guys like Jrue Holiday, Khris Middleton, and even Damian Lillard took over that role. The Heat don't really have any guys like that on the roster right now.
Heat still don't have enough offensive creation
Miami made some moves to add scoring around Antetokounmpo and Adebayo, and those moves are definitely going to help the Heat put points on the board this upcoming season.
Guys like Klay Thompson and Tim Hardaway Jr. can fill up the scoring column, especially from behind the three-point arc. That's going to be crucial to Miami's success.
But neither of those guys are lead creators. They are guys who play off the ball, playing off creators to help them space the floor on the offensive end.
The point guard position is still questionable for the Heat. Davion Mitchell has a chance to grow into a much larger role on that side of the ball, and if he does, then maybe some of these questions will have answers.
But if Mitchell doesn't take a significant leap next season, then the Heat could end up asking themselves why they didn't go out and try to add more offensive creation over the summer.
Again, Antetokounmpo is going to have the ball a lot. He is going to create for the Heat with the ball in his hands, getting downhill and kicking it out to guys like Thompson and Hardaway.
But they could still use some additional creation, especially in the back court. That might be the Heat's biggest area of need once the trade deadline comes around next season.
And right now, it looks like something that could haunt them early in the year.
