This may finally be the week that the Miami Heat gets some much-needed clarity on whether they'll land LeBron James or not in free agency.
According to NBA reporter Sean Deveney of Heavy Sports, LeBron is expected to make a decision this week on where he'll play next season. That much-anticipated decision will almost certainly create a domino effect for the rest of the free-agency market.
Perhaps most importantly, especially for a team like the Heat, they'll be able to finalize the rest of their roster in the first year around Giannis Antetokounmpo once they get an answer from LeBron.
Either way, once LeBron makes his decision, whether it's to sign with the Heat or not, it will give Miami the green light it needs to put a bow on this offseason.
The Heat are big winners of the offseason no matter what LeBron decides
In theory, the Heat should be fine either way. Especially after the move for Giannis. It's hard to envision how anything else this offseason would put a damper on that high. However, there's no question that adding LeBron would be considered a huge next move for the Heat after Giannis.
If Miami could somehow get it done, this offseason would be right up there with the masterpieces that Pat Riley (and the rest of the Heat's front office) pulled off during the summer of 2010.
It's hard to envision this topping that offseason, but this would absolutely rival it.
But, again, even just the clarity on the LeBron front will do the Heat good. They'll finally be able to explore other options without hesitation. Until LeBron makes a decision one way or another, it would be considered poor management for the Heat to go down that route.
Once LeBron decides, that all changes in an instant for the Heat's front office.
Heat face long odds to pry LeBron away from Cleveland
Despite all that, and there's no indication that Miami is out on LeBron just yet, I would still suggest that the Cleveland Cavaliers are the heavy favorites to land the superstar forward. It would come as a pretty big surprise if he didn't sign in Cleveland.
The lure of the storybook ending may be too much for LeBron to pass up. And if that's something he couldn't do, it'd be difficult to blame him.
Even though the Heat make a ton of sense as a pure basketball fit, the narrative of returning to Cleveland one last time may end up being the right move for LeBron and his team. And that's OK.
No matter what ends up being the case, the Heat appear to be getting an answer sooner rather than later.
