It sure sounds like the Heat could trade one of their biggest stars (again)

But it won't be enough to get the guy they want.

The Miami Heat are open for business. Maybe. Recent reports indicate that the Heat could be persuaded into dealing star guard Tyler Herro, most notably this one from NBA insider Jake Fischer last week:

My read is that the Heat can't ever be a real contender to land Antetokounmpo if they're not willing to part with Ware this go-around. Sources insist, however, that Miami is indeed willing to part with Andrew Wiggins (and his $28.2 million salary) in the proverbial right deal. The fact that the Heat did not come to a contract extension agreement with Tyler Herro, furthermore, would also appear to make his $31 million deal movable (we repeat) in the proverbial right deal. (Both Wiggins and Herro have one season left on their current contracts after this one.)

There's a lot to unpack here. First and foremost, can there be a "right deal" including Herro that doesn't involve Giannis? I'm hard-pressed to think of someone currently on the trade block who would make the Heat better if he replaced Tyler Herro on this roster. Trades are great and fun, but trading a longtime member of the team who's improved substantially during his tenure shouldn't be done unless a package including him can fetch a real, legitimate superstar.

Coming off his first All-Star appearance, Herro has battled injuries in 2025-26, but has been fantastic in the games he has played. I will not be persuaded into believing the Heat are better in any way without Herro, even though the offense has sputtered in a few of the games he's played this year.

Tyler Herro, Kel'el Ware should only be available in a trade for Giannis

It sounds like the Heat are extremely hesitant to include Kel'el Ware in any potential deal. That's good! Ware's future is dangerous levels of UV bright. They should be equally hesitant to trade Herro — in fact, I think the only time either of those guys should be traded is together, in a package for Giannis.

If those two guys plus picks (as many as the Bucks want) gets the deal done, then it would be irresponsible not to pull the trigger. But any other deal including Herro or Ware would be more risk than possible reward.

Currently slogging through a losing streak, Heat fans are losing patience with the current construction of the team and the direction things are (or aren't) heading. I understand wanting solutions quickly. I don't think a forced Herro trade will bring those solutions.
