During the month of April, Kel'el Ware continued to improve his efficiency from 3-point range. Shooting nearly 60 percent from deep during the final few games to close out the regular season, Ware is proving that he's slowly developing into one of the best shooting bigs in the game.
Coming out of college, Ware had a pretty solid jump shot in his repertoire. However, not many expected him to be this good a 3-point shooter this quickly.
While there are still many concerns about his overall consistency and his ability to hold his own in the paint on both ends of the floor, the strides he's made with his jump shot in the first two years of his career are quite amazing.
Kel'el Ware's development from 3-point range
Ware was solid during his rookie season, finishing by shooting 31.5 percent from deep on 1.7 attempts per game. During his sophomore season, he's almost doubled his attempts per game (3.0) and is shooting nearly 40 percent on them (39.5, to be exact).
After the conclusion of the regular season, Ware finished third in 3-point percentage for centers who attempted at least three per game. He was only trailing Micah Potter and John Collins in that category.
Again, it's not like Ware came out of college as a 3-point marksman. He's slowly developed into one. Heading into the offseason, Ware is going to be considered to be one of the best shooting bigs in the game. And it's just one more part of his game that has continued to blossom.
It will certainly add that much more intrigue into his overall growth as a player heading into year three.
What's next for Kel'el Ware?
One of the bigger questions for the Heat heading into the offseason is going to revolve around Ware. What is next for the big man?
And that doesn't just apply to his development. Because, as the rumor mill already begins to pick up steam, Ware is at the center of many of the Heat's uncertainties. If the Heat end up making a big move this summer, Ware is going to be a big part of it all, one way or another.
It's one of those unspoken understandings that both the Heat and Ware are carrying heading into the end of the season.
Either way, one thing has become clear over the last few months of the season, and it's that Ware is beginning to thrive as a young player. It's his shooting that has started to turn heads this season. And that will continue to be the case, in a Heat uniform or on another team.
