Following a drama-filled regular season and a disappointing first-round playoff exit via sweep, the Miami Heat head into the offseason with far more questions than answers.

From free agency quagmires to salary cap concerns, Pat Riley and company clearly have their work cut out for them this summer as they look to recapture much-needed stability both on and off the court.

The first shot at recovery on this front will come during the 2025 NBA Draft, where the Heat will have an opportunity to find yet another young gem to add to their talent pool.

Fortunately for them, there's a particular prospect who projects as an ideal target for Miami to pursue during the festivities. However, in order for the club to attain his services, they'll likely need to move up on the board.

Heat must consider moving up in NBA Draft for Kasparas Jakucionis

It's no secret that Miami could use a new franchise table-setter for the 2025-26 season and beyond. After finishing a middling 14 in assists per game (dropped to 18 following the Jimmy Butler trade) and 24 in points per game, this is far from a debatable assertion.

Because of this, the cash-strapped Heat should be highly interested in pursuing such a talent during this month's draft, and Kasparas Jakucionis may be the exact player they need.

Following a one-and-done season at Illinois, the Lithuania native has established himself as one of the best pure point guard prospects in his class, as he spearheaded one of the best offenses in the nation and wrapped up his freshman season boasting impressive averages of 15.0 points, 4.7 assists, and 5.7 rebounds per game.

Benefited by his enviable 6-foot-5 frame, Jakucionis displays excellent court vision and accompanies that with elite-level ball fakes and look-aways, both of which do wonders when finding players for clean scoring looks.

Considering the Heat ranked in with the seventh-fewest open and eighth-fewest wide-open shot attempts during this past year, adding someone with such a skill set would be an absolute luxury.

Now, while he may not have been the most consistent shooter throughout the 2024-25 campaign (converted on just 44.0 percent of his attempts from the floor), it's important to realize that he was suffering from a nagging forearm injury throughout roughly half the season.

Despite this, he never lost confidence in his shot and even showcased a more interior, close-to-the-basket scoring game as a result, something that this drive-heavy Heat team could further benefit from, especially in drive-and-kick option sets.

With his dime-dropping skills, interior presence, and off-ball abilities, Kasparas Jakucionis has the makings of the perfect backcourt running mate for Tyler Herro and a promising one guard to potentially serve as the team's floor general of the future.

As things currently stand, the 19-year-old is projected to be scooped up somewhere in the lottery, so the Heat would need to find a way to trade up in order to secure his draft rights.

Looking at Miami's current needs, there's more than a strong case to be made that he'd be well worth coughing up a few assets to leapfrog into the top-14 for.
