Over the next few weeks, Nikola Jovic could completely change the trajectory of his NBA career. That's why he's quietly become one of the most important players participating in the EuroBasket tournament overseas.

If Jovic is going to pencil his name into the Miami Heat's projected starting 5, he'll need to solidify himself with a strong showing for Team Serbia in the EuroBasket tournament. In addition to that, if he wants to help Team Serbia live up to their expectations, as one of the favorites to win it all, he'll need to step up to play a crucial role next to Nikola Jokic.

In more ways than one, Jovic has a lot riding on how the next few weeks pan out for him (and Team Serbia) in EuroBasket 2025. And there's no question that he finds himself in a position to catapult himself into the next tier as a professional basketball player with a strong showing.

Nikola Jovic could raise the ceiling for the Heat

Jovic could etch his name in Serbian basketball history if he can help lead the team to a EuroBasket championship. However, for his professional career, there's also a ton at play heading into the start of the tournament.

There's an argument to be made that with a strong showing over the next few weeks that Jovic could force Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra's hand when it comes to the starting lineup. At the very least, Jovic could play his way into a spot where Spo would have to make a very difficult decision heading into the start of training camp.

Jovic could throw his name into consideration to emerge as a full-time starter for the Heat this season. Looking at the Heat's roster, there are probably three players locked into a starting role at the moment: Tyler Herro, Bam Adebayo, and Andrew Wiggins.

After that, Spo needs to decide who will get the starting nod in the backcourt next to Herro and if the Heat are going to go with Kel'el Ware (in an attempt to size up) or if they're going to embrace somewhat of a small-ball philosophy again. If that were to be the case, Jovic could cement his status as the starting 4 next to Bam with a statement over the next few weeks.

While Jovic is clearly one of the most important players for Team Serbia on their roster at the moment, after Jokic, there's no question the Heat are also keeping close tabs on what's happening in EuroBasket 2025.

It may be a little disingenuous to say that all eyes will be on Jovic as Serbia begins its road in EuroBasket 2025, but he's easily become one of the bigger storylines heading into the start of the tournament.
