2. "He's the perfect culture pick, but is he the best talent on the board? Probably not.

Grade: D+ (FanSided)

FanSided was much more critical of the pick, calling Jaquez the “most #HeatCulture pick possible,” but assigning a D+ grade. The review acknowledged Jaquez’s strengths—his relentless work ethic, crafty mid-range game, and high basketball IQ—but questioned whether he was the best talent still available on the board.

In many ways, calling a player a "Heat Culture" pick can come across as a backhanded compliment. Rather than evaluating a player for their actual strengths or even honestly critiquing their weaknesses, it’s an easy label that reduces the player to a hard-working, developmental project. This overlooks the real value they bring to the team.

The review highlighted Jaquez’s decision-making and his ability to make smart plays within the flow of the offense, something that would likely fit well within Erik Spoelstra’s system. However, they raised significant concerns over his shaky three-point shooting and his limited athleticism, noting that these deficiencies could hinder his ability to make a meaningful impact at the NBA level.

Additionally, they pointed out that Jaquez’s shorter wingspan and average lateral quickness might make him a liability on defense, leading to the worry that he could be exploited by faster or more athletic players on the perimeter.

FanSided’s doubts were ultimately misplaced. Jaquez quickly showed that his in-between game and ability to make the right decisions in high-pressure situations made him a seamless fit for the Heat. Although his three-point shooting wasn’t perfect, it steadily improved over the season, and his defense was boosted by his high basketball IQ and effort on every possession. Allowing him to play a bit more chaotic on that end under Spoelstra truly highlighted that he's a smart and gritty defender.

His consistent contributions to both ends of the floor, combined with his ability to fit into Miami’s tough, defensive-minded culture, proved that Jaquez was far more than just a "culture pick." With Jaquez, simply giving him this label misses the point—he wasn’t chosen just because of his work ethic. Jaquez was the *right* pick because of his skill set, basketball IQ, and ability to immediately make an impact.
