3 Free agent point guards the Heat can sign to replace Delon Wright
By Max Marshall
Surprisingly, the Miami Heat lost Delon Wright to the Milwaukee Bucks. Now Miami must find a defensive guard to take Wright's place on the depth chart.
Wright was a reliable option off the bench, especially on defense, where Wright is one of the better defenders in his position. The Heat will be limited to signing free agents to the veteran minimum. Here are three names they should consider.
Markelle Fultz
Markelle Fultz had an up-and-down year for the Orlando Magic. He sat out a large portion of thr season due to injury. After starting all 60 games he played for the Magic in 2022-23, Fultz made 43 appearances this season with only 18 starts. Fultz injured the same left knee that he had surgery on in 2021.
Fultz improved his shooting last year, but he still isn't comfortable with shooting 3s. After attempting 87 3-pointers in 2022-23 (the second-most in his career), he only shot 18 long-range attempts last season.
Fultz is still a good defender; he does a good job eliminating passing lanes, jumping them, and limiting penetration at the point of attack. This could be a good signing for everyone involved.
Fultz is looking for a bounce-back season, and Miami does a good job helping guys' careers.
Dion Waiters, Hasson Whiteside, and James Johnson come to mind. Fultz and Miami make a lot of sense.
