Dennis Smith Jr. was in the same draft class as Adebayo (he was the ninth pick) and the two are close friends.

Smith is very athletic and has a quick first step, even if the outside shot hasn't come around. He also provides tenacious defense on the ball.

Maybe the Heat can help Smith unlock his potential, and a pick-and-roll pairing with Adebayo would feature a ton of athleticism as both can put pressure on the rim. Miami hasn’t had an athletic point guard like Smith in some years.

Smith was linked to Miami last offseason but decided to sign with the Brooklyn Nets as the Heat waited for a resolution on Damian Lillard. A free agent again, Smith's interest in Miami could still be there.
