4 Times Miami Heat's Pat Riley has fleeced another team in a trade
1. LeBron James/Chris Bosh sign and trades (2010)
Another diabolical executive move that led to championships came in 2010, when the Heat formed the infamous "Big Three." Although Dwyane Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosh were all free agents, Riley had to make it a sign-and-trade to pull off the historic offseason move. Basically, the Heat had to give up a plethora of draft picks and shed some salary in separate transactions in order to get the James and Bosh deals done.
However, those draft picks were pretty much useless, considering just how dominant Miami had become with their superstar trio. The picks were never going to be considered lottery-bound for teams like the Cleveland Cavaliers and Toronto Raptors to take advantage of. The Heat never finished any worse than second place in the Eastern Conference during their Big Three era, making the picks less valuable.
More importantly, these sign-and-trades that led to James and Bosh coming aboard resulted in back-to-back championships. That build also brought the most successful era of Heat basketball in the franchise's history, reaching the NBA Finals four years in a row and winning two championships.
