5 Biggest Heat regrets and concerns after disappointing offseason
2. Who is the player you wish the Heat could have signed/traded for that was available this offseason?
Riccio: It may have divided some Heat fans in terms of envisioning the fit, but I strongly feel that a DeMar DeRozan acquisition could have been the missing piece. DeRozan's mutual interest in coming to South Beach got me excited at first, because it seemed realistic rather than other superstar pipe dreams from past years. His age and window would have lined up perfectly with Butler, while providing him with a co-star that he thinks highly of. It just would have been the best way to make the Heat’s franchise player happy and help him properly end his career with a better chance to win that long-overdue ring. The Heat made the NBA Finals a year ago with just Butler and Bam Adebayo leading the way; imagine adding a healthy Terry Rozier and 24-point scorer in DeRozan into the mix. Even if it came at the expense of someone else to shed the needed salary, DeRozan is that marquee player that would have instantly put the Heat back to contender status.
Villasis: Realistically, Dennis Smith Jr. The Heat currently don’t have a backup point guard and need someone who is known for defending the point of attack. Smith is still a free agent, and with the Heat drafting Kel’el Ware and re-signing Kevin Love, I believe Miami should have filled out the roster with a guard instead of bringing back Thomas Bryant.
Marshall: Donovan Mitchell was the guy who could turn Miami’s offense around. The Heat have a hard time scoring consistently and Mitchell would’ve made life a lot easier for Miami this offseason.
