The most recent draft blunder occurred in 2020 when the Heat chose Precious Achiuwa one pick ahead of the Philadelphia 76ers' Tyrese Maxey. Miami took Achiuwa 20th overall, and Maxey was then the 21st pick. It has been reported that the Heat liked the idea of an Achiuwa/Bam Adebayo frontcourt pairing.

Achiuwa displayed versatility as a mobile 6-foot-8 big man with a 7-foot wingspan. But with the player Maxey has become over the years, this choice was a big mistake. The Heat ended up trading Achiuwa after just one season as Maxey has been thriving in Philadelphia.

He recently earned the NBA’s Most Improved Player of the Year award following a season averaging 25.9 points (career-high), 6.2 assists and 3.7 rebounds. At just 23 years old, he picked up his first league All-Star appearance this season.

Maxey is a talented combo guard and recently put together a masterful 46-point postseason explosion at Madison Square Garden a couple of weeks ago.
