5. Baylor Scheierman, guard, Creighton

A standout at the draft combine, Baylor Scheierman may seem like an underwhelming option in the first round but there is little doubt that he will make an impact on winning at the NBA level.

Scheierman was among the best players involved in the 5 on 5 portion of the combine, with his three-level shot-making and competitiveness on defense standing out.

The 23-year-old made 38% of his 4s last season on high volume (110 of 289). There’s no question about his NBA range and he can shoot it off the catch, off the dribble and on the move. Creighton also used him quite a bit in the pick-and-roll and he averaged 3.9 assists. Think of Duncan Robinson after he developed more playmaking skills last season.

At 6-foot-6, he has the size to compete defensively and puts in the effort.

Scheierman might be too redundant at shooting guard for the Heat to take him, but adding him could also make one of their higher-priced guards expendable.
