6. Jaylon Tyson, guard, Cal

As a transfer to Cal last season, Tyson thrived as a high-usage shot-creator but has the skills to translate into an elite role player in the NBA.

The first thing that stands out about Tyson is his production: 19.6 points on 55.7% True Shooting (36% on 3s), 6.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists. As Cal’s No. 1 option on offense, he impressed with his ability to get to hit spots with his strength and craftiness in the paint. His work in the post is similar to what Jaquez showed at UCLA.

Tyson is an improving 3-point shooter but he was forced to take tough ones in Cal’s limited offense. His catch-and-shoot numbers are good and he should make them at a reliable clip when playing a complementary offensive role.

Defensively, Tyson is alert to opportunities to make plays in passing lanes (1.2 steals last season) and has the length (6-foot-6, 6-foot-8 wingspan) and strength to guard multiple positions right away.

Scaling down his role won’t be easy. Players don’t just change the way they play overnight – especially when going from a primary, on-ball role to having to play off other stars – but the tools and intangibles are there.
