Adrian Wojnarowski's 4 Biggest Woj Bombs in Miami Heat history
During major NBA events such as the trade deadline, the NBA draft and free agency, social media users would look forward to the famous “Woj bomb” from former NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski.
Woj became one of the most prominent figures in the sports industry with a strong history of breaking news about major NBA stories. But Woj’s recent (and final) Woj bomb left people stunned as he announced his retirement from ESPN and sports media.
With Woj's reporting career coming to a close, Let’s take a look at the biggest Woj bombs that impacted the Miami Heat.
1. Jimmy Butler sign-and-trade
After Dwyane Wade’s "One Last Dance" season ended in 2019, reality set in for the Miami Heat, and Miami's future did not look bright. With many bad contracts and a season that resulted in missing the playoffs, Miami had to find a way to steer the ship in the right direction.
The Heat attempted to trade for Jimmy Butler after Butler made it known that he would like to be traded to the Heat. But talks between the Minnesota Timberwolves and Heat reached a stalemate. Butler was ultimately traded to the Philadelphia 76ers and helped bring them to within a game of the Eastern Conference finals.
Even with Philadelphia's success, Butler had not agreed to a contract extension, which kept Miami in play. It only took one meeting with Miami to convince Butler to sign with them, and on the second day of free agency, Woj announced that the Heat were acquiring Butler via sign-and-trade.
Miami finally acquired the star they wanted and made one of their biggest acquisitions in Heat history, but there was some cap movement that needed to be made in order to finalize the deal, which leads to the next Woj bomb.
