Grade the trade: Heat pair Bam Adebayo with All-NBA scorer in proposal

Sacramento Kings star De’Aaron Fox has turned down a contract extension. If he becomes available, the Miami Heat should make the call.

Kings grade for De’Aaron Fox trade: B

Should the Kings be forced to trade Fox, they could lose some leverage if Fox makes it known he won't sign a contract extension with just any team. This is a situation where Fox could provide a list of preferred destinations, potentially limiting the pool of teams the Kings can negotiate with.

Still, there will be a bidding war. It could cost the Heat Rozier (to help Sacramento replace Fox at point guard) and two of their best young players. Jaquez was recently ranked the third-best trade asset in the league and for good reason. He's a promising young wing with scoring and defensive potential. He'd be tough to part with but would also be a centerpiece in the Kings' incoming package that other teams would be hard-pressed to match.

Adding Rozier, Jaquez and Nikola Jovic would keep the Kings competitive even after a Fox departure while providing them with two key building blocks for whatever comes next.

Miami Heat grade for De’Aaron Fox trade: A

There are plenty of reasons to justify the Heat trading for Fox. The scoring, playmaking and clutch gene are all elements that the Heat are looking for.

Doing so would pair Adebayo with an All-Star teammate that perfectly aligns with his timeline. The two are close friends and former Kentucky teammates who were both drafted in 2017.

Besides helping Adebayo, Fox would also take the scoring load off an aging Butler. A trio of Butler, Adebayo and Fox would rival any other in the Eastern Conference.

Herro could move to a sixth-man role, adding needed balance to the Heat’s depth chart. The Heat, in this fake trade construction, would still keep Kel'el Ware and wouldn't be without all of their first-round picks -- so they'd still have some youth.

If more Fox trade buzz materializes throughout the next season, the Heat should be first in line to make the splash.
