Alondes Williams scored 42 points to lead the shorthanded Sioux Falls Skyforce to a win Tuesday night.

On the same night the Miami Heat lost to the Milwaukee Bucks to get eliminated from the In-Season Tournament, Williams sparkled for the team’s G League affiliate en route to a 145-127 win over the Motor City Cruise in Detroit.

The Skyforce entered the game with just seven active players, missing key rotation players who spent the preseason with the Heat. Sidelined were Jamaree Bouyea (concussion), Justin Champagnie (wrist) and Jon Elmore (finger). Two-way players Cole Swider, R.J. Hampton and Jamal Cain were in Miami for the Bucks game, as were Nikola Jovic and Orlando Robinson, who have spent time in the G League this season.

Both teams exited the first quarter with the score tied at 34, but guard Bryson Warren rattled off 19 points in the second quarter to help Sioux Falls outscore Motor City 41-22 before halftime. The Skyforce did not trail the rest of the game.

It was Williams, a second-year guard who went undrafted in 2022, who provided a steady drumbeat of scoring throughout the game. Williams poured in 15 of his 25 shots, including 5 of 8 from 3-point range, and added eight rebounds, four assists and three steals in 45 minutes. In the fourth quarter, he caught a lob and finished with a reverse dunk to put the finishing touches on the win.

Williams’ career night is an encouraging story for the Heat’s G League program, but it doesn’t mean a promotion is coming any time soon. Miami is expected to keep its 15th roster spot open and, although Dru Smith is out for the season, the Heat would face salary cap penalties by waiving him.

But Willaims, with his athleticism and ability to score in bunches, is a player to monitor within the Heat’s developmental pipeline.
