Perhaps it’s a bit early to start discussing the Rookie of the Year award, but this is also been one of the best rookie classes in recent memory. It’s fine to celebrate it!

Of course, Spurs sensation Victor Wembanyama seems to be a lock to win the award, but other rookies have showcased their talents and emerged as vital parts of their team’s rotations. Let’s take a look at some of the top rookies of the 2023-24 season here.

1. Victor Wembanyama, San Antonio Spurs

Stats: 18.6 points, 9.3 rebounds, 2.4 blocks

The showdown between Wembanyama and Oklahoma City’s Chet Holmgren on Tuesday night didn’t result in big numbers or crazy highlights that many had hoped for, but it doesn’t take away from the season both rookie big men are having. Wembanyama’s 14 rebounds at Paycom Center were impressive, but if there’s a hole in his game it is his efficiency. After going 4 for 15 from the field, he’s down to shooting 43.2% for the season (and 28.3% from 3-point range).

2. Chet Holmgren, Oklahoma City Thunder

Stats: 15.7 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.2 blocks

While Wembanyama showcases his talents on the 3-8 Spurs, Holmgren has quickly become one of the most important players for a Thunder team that is out to a 7-4 start. Playing more of a supporting role on offense next to All-Star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and others, Holmgren is shooting a tidy 52.7% overall and 46.3% on 3s.
