Ranking the 5 worst Miami Heat starters of the Jimmy Butler era

The Miami Heat have had a plethora of different starters surrounding Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo over the years. Some didn’t pan out as well as they hoped.

1. Moe Harkless

Along with Ariza, Moe Harkless was another name that attempted to fill Crowder's shoes at small-ball power forward. Harkless was signed as a free agent in 2020 and opened the regular season next to Butler and Adebayo in the frontcourt. There was some room for optimism following his addition, considering that he built a reputation for being a solid role player and was only 27 years old at the time.

But his career ultimately ended shortly after his Heat tenure and he hasn’t played since 2022. He appeared in just 11 games, with three starts, in Miami. He was quickly demoted to a bench role, and eventually to no role at all because of his poor play.

Harkless averaged a career-low 1.4 points as a member of the Heat. It seemed like he wasn’t confident in searching for his outside shot to help spread the floor. Factor in a lot of defensive errors in Miami’s system and this wound up being a blunder of a free-agent pickup. The veteran was traded at that season’s deadline to the Sacramento Kings for Nemanja Bjelica -- another role player who didn’t fit.
