Regrading the trade
Butler has quickly earned a Miami resume that can put him up there as a true Heat legend with a mix of elite individual accolades, performances and team success.
He reached an agreement on a contract extension worth $184 million across four more years back in 2021. This extension will keep him on Miami for at least two more seasons, but is due for another extension in the near future.
The Heat had to part with Josh Richardson to get this deal done years ago, who was at one point a big part of the team's future. With Richardson ultimately finding his way back to South Beach this past offseason, Pat Riley hypothetically gave up little to nothing to bring Butler aboard.
