Adam Schefter is known for being the best NFL newsbreaker in the business. But if the whispers he's hearing about LeBron James are accurate, he could end up breaking one of the biggest stories of the NBA's offseason.
He could also make Miami Heat fans very happy in the process.
On a recent hit with Philadelphia talk radio, Schefter continued to push the LeBron to Miami speculation based on what he heard weeks ago.
“Where there’s smoke, there’s fire…. There are people who are kind and think of me and send along information. I can read you the exact text… Tuesday, June 30th, at ‘I’m hearing Bron is coming to the Miami Heat, just giving it a heads up. You may want to check It out.’”
Schefty pushing LeBron to Heat should be taken lightly
Despite the named attatched to these comments, this information should be taken with a grain of salt. After all, Schefty made his name as an NFL newsbreaker. Could some of his sources have some overlap within the NBA space? Sure.
However, not only is the source of his information a bit dated, considering that the exchange happened nearly a month ago, but these are things he's likely hearing from NFL agents. At least, that's what one would assume.
But, at the same time, it would also be foolish to completely ignore the whispers that may be coming across Schefty's desk. Because if this is getting into Schefty's ear, there could certainly be something to it.
After all, Schefty is not necessarily one to float around the NBA newswire. He does it occasionally, but it's been relatively rare. So when he does do it, it does come off as newsworthy.
The rest of the NBA is still waiting on LeBron
Despite all that, the entire NBA is still in the waiting period. Much as has been the case for the better part of the last 20 years, the Association is LeBron's world, and we're just living in it. For the Heat, specifically, they're waiting out his decision before they can move forward with the rest of their offseason.
Miami clearly feels that they have a good shot to land LeBron, but, as Rich Paul alluded to earlier this week, no one (other than LeBron) really knows how this is all going to end.
The hope is that the Heat ends up with their second big fish of the summer with the signing of LeBron. But even despite all the tea leaves that may be pointing in their direction, it's still all one big guessing game until LeBron makes an official announcement.
Could Schefy end up being right here? Absolutely. While it may be hard for most NBA fans to put much weight on his thoughts for many reasons, there's no question his "prediction" does add more intrigue to the Heat as a destination for LeBron.
