According to NBA insider Jake Fischer, the Miami Heat held internal discussions about Ja Morant's potential fit in the organization, should they explore a trade for the superstar guard. It's tough to tell how far those discussions went, but it's certainly something that has been talked about behind closed doors in the Heat's front office.

That's far from surprising, especially considering it's at least worth a conversation, but Morant has become one of the most polarizing players in the league. Naturally, there is a portion of Heat fans that will not like even the slightest thought of a potential pursuit of Morant.

Again, it's unclear how far those conversations went or where they led, but the fact that the Heat even thought about it is certainly interesting.

The Heat are on star watch

While the Heat's ultimate interest in Morant is ultimately unknown at this point, it's pretty clear that this team is on star watch.

As Fischer notes, even though the Heat have gotten off to a better-than-expected start to this season, it's hard to take this team seriously without a top-tier star player on their roster. For how good Tyler Herro, Bam Adebayo, and Norman Powell can be in their own right, I can't imagine any of those players can make up the impact that a superstar would make on this team.

That's part of why it's not surprising to hear that the Heat did explore what Morant would look like in the organization.

Especially with the way the Heat has operated over the last few years, Morant would be considered the ultimate reclamation project for the franchise. Of course, that's if they were to go down that path.

For now, as is the case for the rest of the league, the Heat are firmly on Giannis Antetokounmpo watch. However, as Fischer also notes in this article, there's no guarantee that the superstar forward would force his way out.

And even if he did, it's the New York Knicks that would be at the front of the line as his preferred landing spot.

That doesn't mean that a team like the Heat would have no shot to acquire Giannis, but it's probably smart for Miami to keep its options open.

Could that lead them back to Morant? Who knows. But it now certainly feels like more of a possibility that perhaps most were willing to admit after this bit of reporting from Fischer.

And, to be quite honest, I'm not sure how fans will handle that.
